Editorial Policy

How CarRateGuide ensures independent, accurate, and unbiased auto insurance information.

Last updated: July 2026 • CarRateGuide Editorial Team

CarRateGuide is committed to producing accurate, independent, and useful auto insurance content. This policy governs how our content is created, reviewed, updated, and kept free from commercial influence.

Independence from Advertisers

CarRateGuide earns revenue through display advertising and affiliate partnerships with insurance comparison platforms. This commercial activity is entirely separate from our editorial process. The following rules are non-negotiable:

  • Insurers and advertisers cannot pay to receive a higher ranking, a positive review, or inclusion in any comparison.
  • Insurers and advertisers cannot pay to have a competitor excluded or ranked lower.
  • Affiliate commission rates do not influence which companies we feature or how we rate them.
  • Our editorial team does not report to our commercial team and has full authority over all content decisions.

Accuracy Standards

  • All rate data is sourced from public regulatory filings, direct quote sampling, and government databases. See our How We Research page for methodology details.
  • Every factual claim is reviewed before publication against at least one primary source.
  • When data conflicts between sources, we disclose the discrepancy and use the most conservative estimate.
  • Rates are always presented as averages with appropriate caveats that individual rates will vary.

Content Updates and Corrections

  • All guides carry a visible last-updated date. Content that contains outdated rate data is updated or retired.
  • If we discover an error after publication, we correct it promptly and note the correction in the article.
  • Major structural changes to an article (not just rate updates) trigger a full editorial review before republishing.

Disclosure Practices

We disclose affiliate relationships on any page where links may result in referral commissions. Sponsored content, if any, is clearly labeled as such and is held to the same accuracy standards as editorial content. We never present sponsored content as independent editorial opinion without clear disclosure.

Who Writes Our Content

Our content is written and reviewed by our editorial team, which includes researchers with backgrounds in personal finance, insurance, and consumer advocacy. We do not publish content written by insurers, insurance agents, or any party with a direct financial interest in the outcome of our recommendations without clear disclosure.
